About VW's

About vw campers & beetles:
These vehicles which have been around since the 40's & 50's, are undoubtedly one of the most popular classic vehicles that have ever been made.

They have a certain charm and appeal that makes them popular to people in all walks of life, and have had a cult following that makes them as popular today as they ever were. And unlike most classics, the parts are still widely avaliable today, in both genuine & pattern parts, that makes them cheap and viable for restoration, so the legend should stay alive for years to come.

Although I have been interrested, and owned a campervan nearly all of the time I have been driving, (which is nearly 20 years now), I have to admit that it hasn't always been in volkswagons. They came into my life about 5 years ago, before that I used to convert old ambulances into campers and restore bedfords much to my sins! But having been bitten by the vw bug, I will never drive anything else again!

I envy all you newcomers to the vw scene out there, because you have all the various shows and swap meets to visit for the first time, i.e. B.V.F.& VANFEST e.t.c. you can find details of these events in the various vw magazines like 'volksworld' & 'total vw', which can be purchased from any good news agents such as W.H.Smiths.

There is a club that I would recommend that you join, and that is the type 2 owners club, there is a modest fee for this, but it is well worth it as you can get free magazines, valuations, cheaper insurance, and various discounts for being a member. Also if you think that your vehicle might be eligable for free tax, they will help you to get it. The club secretary is phil & lesley shaw, 57 Humphrey avenue, charford bromsgrove, worcs.
