A Spare Wheel Alternative

I have often been asked on kamperchat about alternatives for housing the spare wheel. some people put it in the well at the rear of the van where it was designed for, but this often gets in the way when sleeping, others put it on the roof, but it's a bit of a pain to reach, And most mount it on the front panel. But some people don't like doing this for fear of the wheel damaging the front panel in the event of an accident.

But I recently saw an ingenious idea at an event where the wheel was adapted to be housed between the cab seats. The bus is owned by 'hippychick' on kamperchat, and she didn't mind me showing you this. So thanks hippychick!.

All that was basically done was to cut away the sections near the brake fluid bottle, to allow room for the wheel, then to put the strength back, two arms on hinges were put on, and a bolt went through the other end of the arms to lock it all in place as you can see in the picture.

they then put a cover over it, which acted like a centre seat with no back, so you could still have your walk through. the seats that you can see in the picture were from a proton. and they were on a hinge so they opened sideways to get easy access to the wheel.

Very clever idea I thought!.
