Jobs - Bus steering wheel removal and re fitting

Although this sounds a simple job, it can prove to be troublesome if you don't have the right tools.
Ideally you would do it with a pulling tool, but because I have designed this site with people in mind that are on a tight budget, then the following tells you how to do it without one.
The first thing to do is take off the plastic horn cover, and nut that holds the wheel to the steering column. Then get a can of WD 40 and soak the spline, then LEAVE OVERNIGHT.This is very important as it makes all the diffeance in removing it.
The next day get yourself a rubber mallet,(don't use a metal one, as it will most likely damage your wheel) and give it a short but firm wack underneath the wheel on the cross bars, alternating it from side to side, so as it comes off the spline evenly.
You should be able to remove it quite easily using this method, but be carefull the wheel doesn't come off all of a sudden and hit you in the face like what happend to me once!.
When you come to put the wheel back on, make sure your front wheels are perfectly straight, otherwise even if you put the wheel back on with the crossbars in the horizontal position, when you come to drive it, you will find there not in the right place. It is perfectly ok, but it just doesn't feel quite right.
